Membership Information

The Purpose of the Ophthalmic Professional Committee of the FOA

To promote, develop and support educational opportunities for all ophthalmic personnel. Promoting the ophthalmic health team concept; the OP committee encourages the advancement of knowledge by providing quality continuing educational programs; and endorsing a standard of recognition within the ophthalmic community.

Who are Ophthalmic Professionals?
The OP members of the FOA represent ancillary personnel in the ophthalmic profession. This includes optometric technicians and assistants, contact lens technicians, opticians, optical technicians, administrative personnel and third party specialists.

Who is Eligible for OP Membership?
Membership as an Ophthalmic Professional of the FOA is open to any person employed in the ophthalmic profession.

What are the Benefits of Membership?
The ophthalmic profession is dynamic and constantly changing. Technological advancements demand individuals who are educated and well trained in the ophthalmic field. Membership in the FOA provides OP’s with the opportunity to:

Attend excellent educational seminars
Remain current in their chosen field
Learn new technology
Satisfy certification requirements
Participate in regional educational programs at reduced fees
Attend free educational seminars at local society events
Network and share knowledge and skills acquired through experience in the eye care field
Receive periodic newsmagazine

Obtain an annual membership directory of current members

Certification Programs
Certification programs are becoming a benchmark for employers to determine the skill level and qualifications of potential employees. Maintaining your certification is critical. One of the requirements for maintaining certification is to earn continuing education credits.

AOA Paraoptometric, ABO/NCLE and Florida Department of Health Board of Opticianry certification requirements can be acquired by attending programs offered by the FOA.

OP CE seminars are announced on the FOA website, in the FOA Newsmagazine and direct mailings. Members will receive all program brochures.

Volunteer Opportunities
The FOA derives its success from the strength, commitment and professionalism of its members who work to meet the demands of an ever changing and expanding ophthalmic profession.
