Local Society membership is an asset to FOA members for many reasons. Your local society provides a setting in which you can meet with your peers, stay informed on local Optometric issues and acquire CE hours without having to travel long distances.
There are 18 Local Societies throughout Florida. They are broken up either by county or several counties combined. Some societies have over 250 Optometric Physicians in their area while others have less than 20.
Optometry and the Law
AOA advocates for you and the profession of Optometry by working with all branches of the federal government, developing materials such as the HIPAA Privacy Compliance Manual available at no charge and preventing a significant reduction in Medicare payments resulting in millions of dollars in added revenue for Optometric practices.
Helping You Practice
AOA has created a variety of tangible, value-added services that help you start a practice, find a job or practice opportunity, manage a practice, or solve problems in your practice. These programs include the Optometry Career Center, Dr. Locator, Practice Assistance Program, and ILAMO (International Library, Archives, and Museum of Optometry), to name a few.
Helping You Grow Professionally
AOA has a number of written, oral, and online programs/materials to assist you in your education as an Optometric professional. Some of these benefits include Optometry: Journal of the AOA Congress: Optometry’s Meeting and the online Practice Resource Center.
Get the Most for Your Money
Membership with the AOA qualifies you for a variety of provider programs that can mean big savings and added convenience. The AOA Advantage Loan Consolidation program is just one example of a benefit that can cut your monthly payments by 60% or more if you have not previously consolidated.
Marketing Your Profession
Your association works hard to promote you to the public as The Primary Eye Care Provider. From the AOA mission statement of advancing the profession and serving optometrists in meeting the eye care needs of the public to our “Healthy Eyes Healthy People,” platform, AOA continually strives to make the public aware of the importance of the Optometric profession.
